
Chinese smartphone company, Xiaomi has partnered with Foxconn to set up its first manufacturing unit in India at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. The partnership has already started to bear fruit with the launch of first ‘Made In India’ smartphone- Redmi 2 Prime, which is priced at INR 6,999.
Company is currently importing all the component from China and assembling them at Sri City plant. On this, Hugo Barra said, “This is like the typical chicken and egg story. Unless there is any smartphone manufacturing happening in the country, you cannot expect to get components locally.” However, company plans to start procuring locally.
Redmi 2 Prime is available on Flipkart without any flash sale. The Redmi 2 Prime is almost similar to its predecessor, Redmi 2 except that it comes with double the RAM and ROM.
