A marketplace for all types of educational content and tele-mentorship programmes, Edu4share, has raised seed funding of $210K (INR 1.37 Cr) from a group of angel investors including Nalin Jain-President and CEO at GE, a McKinsey & Co Director and other angels.
The funds will be deployed to develop a mobile-app for user engagement and increase its portfolio to include distance learning learning providers and professional tutors who can sell content online.
Founded by Ashvini Jakhar, an ex-Naval Officer and ISB alumnus and Jerry Jose, an alumnus of HEC Paris and former employee of Goldman Sachs, Edu4share is a one-stop platform for shop for competitive exams.
The platform provides preparatory materials and mentorship to the students by offering books, coaching materials, elearning courses and personal notes. Edu4share also connects the students with alumni who have cracked such exams before.
Idea Behind The Startup
Ashvini Jakhar, founder of Edu4share said that the idea originated from his personal instincts while preparing for GMAT & Medical exams almost 15 years back. There was abundance of coaching classes and course material but lack of guidance and real life experience for solutions crypted the way.
“The interesting part is that, the first time I faced this problem was in 2001 and even today it exists in the same shape and form.” – Jakhar said.
Thus, Ashvini Jakhar along with his co-founder Jerry Jose built a platform that would provide guidance and real life experience for solutions to the students preparing for competitive exams such as CAT, GRE, GMAT, JEE, AIPMT, GATE, UPSC and more.
Edu4share connects mentors, individual sellers and business sellers with students to have access to “peer to peer mentorship programs” and exam preparation resources on the platform.
Apart from exam preparation resources the online portal offers ratings of products by experts and mentor-only blogs through which aspirants find the right way out to succeed in the exams.
Targeting close to 40 lakh individuals writing competitive exams every year, Edu4share has managed to bring more than 31 brands and hundreds of individual sellers on the platform.
The startup has Aakash Institute, Toppr, Meritnation, Leanpedia, Practiseguru, AskIITians, eduwizards, TCYonline, Brilliant Tutorials selling their exam preparation material from the platform. Besides, the startup has more than 200 mentors on its platform from top colleges including the likes of IIMs. Edu4share claims to witness 200% increase in traffic and sales month by month.
It is also to be noticed that Edu4share was a winner in the StartEdu Competition organised by Unitus Seed Fund in April this year. The startup was also one of finalist who pitched at TiE in May this year, which has played a pivotal role in raising this seed round.
