
Microsoft GM Rahul Sood‘s gaming startup, Unikrn has raised an undisclosed amount in a funding round led by celebrity investor Ashton Kutcher. Guy Oseary’s Sound Ventures also participated in this round of funding. This funding is part of company’s Series A fundraise which was announced earlier this year.
Unikrn had raised $7 Mn in its Series A round of funding led Jonathan Teo and Justin Caldbeck of Binary Capital in June this year. Prior to that it had raised seed funding of $3 Mn.
Unikrn is a gaming, esports and entertainment company co-founded by Rahul Sood, who, up until recently, was the General Manager of Microsoft Ventures. A serial entrepreneur, Sood spent 18 years in multiple startups; he founded gaming computer creator VoodooPC, which was acquired by Hewlett-Packard in 2006. Unikrn has built partnerships with Hewlett-Packard, Logitech, Razer, Tabcorp, and is continuing to forge strategic relationships in the gaming, eSports and entertainment space.
With the funding, Unikrn has also announced the launch of Unikrn Arena Global for markets around the world. It is a new and fun virtual arena where users can earn “Unikoins” by participating in various activities and then use them to increase their odds of winning amazing prizes. To support its launch, the company has also announced its first companion App, Unikrn Vault, which will be available shortly after launch for Android in the Google Play Store and for iOS in the Apple App Store.
Kutcher and Oseary have previously invested in tech startups such as Airbnb, FourSquare, Skype, SoundCloud Square, Zenefits, Uber and many more.
